Thank You.

I would say Happy Veteran’s Day to you all, but this day doesn’t feel happy … it feels heavy. This day bears the full weight, the agonizing cost of our freedom … the staggering sacrifices made by veterans and families alike. In a letter written to his wife on the eve of the battle of Bull Run, Major Sullivan Ballou wrote the following … “I have no misgivings about, or lack of confidence in the cause in which I am engaged, and...

Racing

We are running a race this saturday in Memphis. More specifically, the Color Run. Who is we, you ask? Two heart sisters, beautiful souls that loved and mourned Original J with me. Women that, like me, vowed to live well because she sacrificed her future.   We haven’t seen each other all together since January 2006. And while the bonds we share are woven tight with grief, in this life we have joy together in community, in remembrance, in the...

Pinners Unite!

I am seriously slacking off here. It’s been a difficult few weeks at Chez Huggins. I am formulating my thoughts to tell you about it, but it is slow going. For sure. In the meantime, let me tell you about a nifty little contest you can enter. If you’ve noticed, or not, whatever, I’ve been blogging about compassion lately. Big C and little c. It’s Compassion Bloggers month and we’ve been challenged with challenging our readers to sponsor a Compassion...

Live Your Love Loud

December 12, 2011,  two Kiowas crashed into each other in Washington state. As the aviation community so often goes, the Buoniconti family were friends of friends.  I was an avid follower of their story. I grieved for their family in tandem with the loss of Bug. I’m going to be brutally honest. There is a part of me (and I would venture to say all of us pilot wives) that is terrified of becoming Kryste. I’ve been honest about my...

You Are My New Lines.

J Girl and I have some favorite bedtime books. You Are My I Love You is at the top of the list. In this sweet story, a loving parent tells her babe . . .  “I am your favorite book. You are my new lines.” Slogging through this Army life, we get a practical re-write every two to four years. A new story, fresh plot lines . . . But between the scrawling lines of new heart friends and the...

Happy Pictures …. yay.

Okay so I had to put these up to lighten the mood and also to remind myself that there is redemption and blessings in His time. So for old friends and new, some happy pictures of the loves of my life and two of the gifts I thank God for in (almost) every breath. Except when I want to sell them to strangers … but only for a second, I promise! These photos were taken by my dear friend Robin at Robin’s...

Please Pray

If you stop by this page today, or any day, really, take a moment to pray for the families of the fallen. Seven US soldiers died yesterday in a Blackhawk crash in Afghanistan. Eleven total casualties. There are dark days ahead for the families. Regardless of your political views, they need to be loved, cared for, comforted as they grieve. I don’t know who it was yet – I am waiting with shiny unshed tears, stomach churning. Just like so...
