J Girl asked me to close the computer. She sees me. She sees me on here and she knows that I get more screen time than her and whether or not it’s fair, it’s not right.
I have to fix this … and oh I’m thankful that she is still six and wants me to see her.
So my sassy little six year old gives me the rules – No computer when she’s here – we can talk, or play games, or snuggle, but I AM allowed to use the computer when she’s watching a movie.
Those are some rules I can live by. I’m all in on the snuggling.
She sees me. I don’t want to miss her.
If you are in the same wide-eyed extrovert desperate-for-community-but-can’t-leave-the-house-because-the-kids-are-sick boat I am in, lurking on Facebook and Twitter for conversation, and connection – I get ya. I do.
Maybe we could do this together? Close the computer a little more often, put down the smartphone, go all in on the snuggles.

Love this! I have a 4 year old, two year old, and one year old. I needed this reminder. I am stopping by from Five Minute Friday. 🙂
Welcome. I am definitely preaching to the choir:)
This is so true and I have caught myself doing it (not giving her the attention she needs or sometimes just wants ) a few times. I’m definitely aware of it not just media wise but other scenarios as well. I think we all spend too much time on gadgets and wish sometimes we could go back to a simpler time. But since we can’t it forces me to be more self aware which I guess is a good thing even though it can be humbling
SO HUMBLING.
🙂 Yes. Definitely…let’s do this together. Beautiful encouragement tonight, friend…thank you!
Thank you! I feel honored to take your SAHM ladies over at (in)courage:)
Oh how beautiful and how challenging…gosh I have been here. This is a post I want to be changed by. Thankful for you & your daughter!
Oh Rachel, thank you for your sweet comments. These babes, they do change us, don’t they?!?
Oh I am all for going All In… especially for snuggles! That right there – that was the BEST CHOICE! Well done!
We heart snuggles at this house! I have cuddly babies and i.love.every.second.
Great job, Mama! Six is so very special, you won’t want to miss a thing:)
Hey there, stopped by from FMF…
Oh, this was precious, cute, funny and TRUE! Especially needing to snuggle. My girls that still live at home snuggle too, but the rule is “Don’t squish Mom” – especially my 5’6″ girl ; )
Ok, the line about cheating – that really cracked me up!
Have a great weekend!
Yes – I tell my girl that even when she is ancient and grown {all of thirty, *gasp}, she will still be my baby and I will still snuggle her.
Thank you for the challenge to close the computer. I find shutting it all the way down removes the temptation to “just check one thing”. Off to close my laptop and join in the fun.
Sometimes I have to hide my phone;)
what a great reminder…. my girls see me here. getting off now! 😉
Excellent choice:)
I love this – and the idea of including my kids in a conversation about my own screen time. Need to do that. Thank you for reminding me to close the computer and see them. Visiting you from FMF – I’m your neighbor 🙂
Welcome … my girlie is Jaime too. Thanks for stopping by:)
