Kate ~ The Grace Between

Kate

I have been absent lately. Vacation. Life. C.r.a.z.y.

Today was a good day.

I taught Wee Man how to laugh like an evil villain.

Husband taught him how to dance.

We went to an air show. It is the 70th birthday of the 101st Airborne division. So there were a whole lot of airplanes and helicopters and generally all the things that fly that make me the happiest.

It was like old home week with me running around sitting in helicopters and trying not to cry and telling everyone around me that really, I used to be cool.

I was hovering (hee hee) around the Kiowa static display and one of the pilots there was a woman named Kate. And I was looking at her and remembering. Just …. remembering. I introduced myself and told her I was living vicariously through her. She was sweet. Humoring a middle aged momma.

Anyway, we chatted for a few minutes and she told me a little about her military experience. She was lovely to talk to, so gracious and articulate. Eventually I walked away but I thought about her all day … and here is why … and what I want you to think about.

I am consistently amazed by the caliber of the men and women I encounter who willingly put themselves in harms way to safeguard my way of life. Even married to the Army, the daily gratitude escapes me. Just know that these men and women are smart, skilled, well-spoken, humble, and generous. With their time, with their skills, with their lives.

So, if you are lucky enough (like me:) to be married to one, hug them a little tighter. If you get the chance, remember to say thank you. To the young veterans, to the old. There are women like Kate, and a million others, who deserve to hear it every day for the rest of their lives.

Beach pictures coming:) And more about the beginning of our life together …

Close as I’m getting these days:)

He l.o.v.e.s the airplanes.

A good day.
