{I realize it is Saturday night, but if it matters, I wrote this last night on my iPhone in the cell phone waiting lot at the Nashville International Airport … and the word is laundry.}
When we moved into our house in Kansas (in 2011), I made this laundry pedestal from Ana White.
Well, my laundry room looks like this.
And this. So, not exactly the same.
I tried stenciling Matthew 6:28 … “And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin” … across the top but It it was an epic fail. There was no more stenciling.
But when I do laundry, (and I do it ALL THE TIME) I think about that verse often.
And in these days we are living of fear, and worry {for myself and for others}, and fatigue, I picture the lilies, and the sparrows, and I cling tight to the promise that even if my earthly tent should fold, I am provided for … “For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens” {2 Corinthians 5:1}. And then this, in verse 6-7. “So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Before I wrote this, I spent an hour worrying and praying for a family member. The Husband gently, lovingly reminded me of Romans 5:1-5…Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint.
All of this … the lilies, the birdbaths, and yes, my obstinate, obdurate seconds, every breathe, for His glory.
And so, I am of good courage, I walk by faith and not by sight …
… and this faith produced in blindness sees me through the dark days and results in a hope that does not disappoint.
And I worship … I fold the ever present laundry in the baskets multiplying at the foot of my bed … praising the God of lilies, of birdbaths, and of tribulations too … the God of peace, the God of hope.
All of this, for His glory.

Great post, Molly! Love your “laundry verse”. I will keep that in mind 🙂
Thank you! It helps me attack the overflow of clothes spilling out of my laundry room.
Well that certainly puts mountains of laundry in perspective. I read that Matthew verse with my kids recently just after stressing about a missing uniform that was needed for a game that day. Ha to laugh at Gods timing.
It does, doesn’t it. Especially with a little girl who changes clothes A MILLION TIMES A DAY.
Bee-ay-yoo-tiful!!!
Thank you:)
